3 Ton Forklift in Dubai: ARAS Electric or Caterpillar?

Nov 14, 2025

Search for a 3 ton forklift from Dubai and half the results point you at a Caterpillar. Fair enough — it is a respected name, and for some yards a diesel Cat is the right machine. But if your truck spends its day indoors, or shuttling between a warehouse and a loading bay, a 3-tonne electric usually does the same work at a lower cost per shift. And you can collect one from stock in Jebel Ali rather than waiting on an import. ARAS Developments FZE has supplied forklifts to UAE businesses since 1997, so we have watched plenty of buyers weigh this exact choice. Here is how we would frame it.

What a 3 ton forklift actually handles

A 3 ton forklift lifts 3,000 kg at the standard 500 mm load centre. In practice that covers most of what moves through UAE warehouses and yards: full pallets of tiles or cement bags, drums on a pallet, packed food and beverage loads, steel fittings, and machinery components. It is the workhorse size — big enough that you rarely find a load it cannot take, small enough to work normal racking aisles. That is why “3 ton” is the capacity most buyers ask for first, whatever the badge on the counterweight.

The ARAS 3-tonne electric forklift

Our own line-up runs from 1 to 3 tonnes, all battery electric, and the 3-Tonne (3,000 kg) model sits at the top of it. We keep these in stock at our Jebel Ali Free Zone warehouse, which means delivery in days rather than the weeks an imported machine needs. Lithium-ion power suits the UAE better than many buyers expect: no engine to overheat in August, no fuel deliveries to organise, and opportunity charging during breaks keeps a single battery running a full shift. Servicing is handled by our own team down the road, not a dealer network with a queue.

On price, new electric forklifts in the 1–3 tonne class generally sell for between AED 60,000 and AED 130,000 in the UAE, with a 3-tonne machine toward the upper part of that band depending on mast height and battery specification. Current stock and models are on our forklifts for sale in the UAE page, and our guide to the 3-ton forklift price in the UAE breaks down what moves the number.

Caterpillar 3 ton forklift: strengths and trade-offs

We do not sell Caterpillar, so take this as a competitor’s honest read rather than a sales pitch. Cat builds solid diesel and LPG counterbalance trucks, and where they earn their keep is outdoors: rough yard surfaces, long shifts far from a charging point, and sites where refuelling from a bowser is simpler than wiring in a charger. The dealer network is global and parts supply is dependable.

The trade-offs are the usual diesel ones. Fuel is a running cost that never stops, engine servicing (oil, filters, coolant) comes around far more often than electric maintenance, and exhaust rules out most indoor work. In the UAE market, Caterpillar machines are typically imported against order, so lead time and landed cost both run higher than a locally stocked truck. If your operation genuinely needs diesel, we can order diesel models through the Soosung SDF range — but our stocked line-up is electric, because that is what most Dubai warehouse work calls for.

Running costs: diesel vs electric on a 3-tonne truck

Over a five-year life, the purchase price is often the smaller half of what a forklift costs you. Diesel burns money every operating hour; electricity for an equivalent shift costs a fraction of that. Electric drivetrains have no engine oil, no filters, no exhaust system to maintain, so scheduled services are quicker and cheaper. Add the softer costs — no fuel storage on site, no fumes in enclosed spaces, less noise for operators — and a 3-tonne electric forklift usually wins the total-cost comparison for indoor and mixed indoor/outdoor duty. Diesel keeps its edge only where charging is impractical.

Frequently asked questions

Which company supplies 3 ton forklifts in Dubai?

ARAS Developments FZE, based in Jebel Ali Free Zone, has supplied material handling equipment across the UAE since 1997. We stock battery-electric forklifts from 1 to 3 tonnes, including the 3-Tonne (3,000 kg) model, and deliver and service across all seven emirates.

Is a 3-tonne electric forklift as capable as a diesel one?

For lifting, yes — both lift 3,000 kg at the standard load centre. The difference is the duty environment: electric suits indoor and mixed work with access to charging, while diesel still makes sense for rough outdoor yards far from a power supply.

Can I still buy a Caterpillar forklift through ARAS?

No — we are not a Caterpillar dealer. If your site requires a diesel machine, we can order diesel models through the Soosung SDF range, or help you specify an electric alternative from stock.

Can I rent a 3 ton forklift before buying?

Yes. Our forklift rental in Dubai and the UAE service covers daily, weekly and monthly hire, which is a sensible way to prove a specification before committing to a purchase.
