Two of the most popular electric machines in any UAE warehouse — the electric counterbalance forklift and the electric reach truck — often get compared as if you must choose one over the other. In reality, they solve different problems. Pick the right one for how your warehouse actually works and you move more pallets, in less space, at a lower running cost. Pick the wrong one and you pay for capability you can’t use, or you fight your own aisles every shift.
Here’s a straightforward, UAE-focused guide to which machine fits which job — and why the battery inside each one matters.
The short answer
- Choose an electric forklift when you load and unload trucks, move pallets across yards and dock areas, handle heavier or mixed loads, and need a machine that works both just-inside and just-outside the building.
- Choose an electric reach truck when your priority is putting pallets away high and tight — narrow aisles, tall racking, and maximum storage density inside a clean indoor warehouse.
Many JAFZA and Dubai operations run both: a forklift at the dock and yard, and a reach truck working the racking. They complement each other.
The lithium electric forklift: where it wins
A counterbalance electric forklift is the workhorse — no mast legs straddling the load, so it handles standard pallets, closed containers and awkward loads with ease, and drives comfortably between indoor and semi-covered outdoor areas.
Our in-stock ARAS lithium electric forklift is CE certified and available in 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 tonne capacities, with lift heights of 4.5 m and 4.8 m — enough to cover the great majority of dock, yard and general warehouse duties in the UAE. Pairing that versatility with a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery is a genuine advantage here:
- Opportunity charging. Top up the battery during breaks and shift changes instead of swapping it out. For two- and three-shift JAFZA operations, that means far less downtime.
- No dedicated battery room or watering. Lithium packs are sealed and maintenance-free — no acid top-ups, no charging-room ventilation, no weekly equalisation.
- Consistent power as it discharges. The truck doesn’t slow down at the bottom of a shift the way a lead-acid machine can.
- Built for heat and dust. Sealed, low-maintenance batteries suit the realities of UAE warehousing.
Best for: dock and yard work, mixed indoor/outdoor duty, multi-shift sites, and any operation that can’t afford battery-swap downtime.

The electric reach truck: where it wins
An electric reach truck is purpose-built to do one thing brilliantly: store and retrieve pallets in narrow aisles at height. Its reach mechanism lets the forks extend into the rack, so aisles can be much tighter than a counterbalance forklift needs — meaning more racking, more pallet positions, and more storage out of the same floor area. In a market where warehouse space in Dubai and JAFZA is expensive, that density pays for itself.
Our in-stock ARAS electric reach truck is CE certified, comes in 1.5 and 2.0 tonne capacities, and reaches up to 7.5 m and 10 m — tall enough for high-bay racking that a standard forklift simply can’t service. It runs a proven lead-acid battery, and for this application that’s a sensible, cost-effective choice:
- Lower upfront cost than an equivalent lithium machine — strong value for single-shift or steady indoor duty cycles.
- Battery weight works for you. In a reach truck the battery sits low in the chassis and contributes to stability when lifting to height — exactly where you want mass.
- Simple, well-understood servicing with parts and support readily available in the UAE.
Best for: indoor put-away and picking, tall racking, high-density storage, predictable single- or light-double-shift operations.

So which battery is “better”? The right one for the job
It’s not lithium versus lead-acid — it’s matching the battery to the duty cycle:
- A forklift that runs long, back-to-back shifts and can’t stop to swap batteries is an ideal home for lithium and opportunity charging.
- A reach truck on a steady indoor cycle, where its battery doubles as low-down ballast, is well served by a cost-effective lead-acid pack.
Buy for how the machine is actually used, and both technologies are the correct answer in their own lane.
Matching the machine to your UAE warehouse
Run quickly through these and the choice usually becomes obvious:
- Aisle width. Tight aisles built for density → reach truck. Wider aisles, docks and yards → forklift.
- Lift height. Tall racking (up to 10 m) → reach truck. Ground-to-truck and lower stacking → forklift.
- Indoor vs outdoor. Purely indoor on smooth floors → reach truck. In-and-out, rougher surfaces → forklift.
- Shift pattern. Two or three shifts → lithium forklift with opportunity charging. Single shift → lead-acid is cost-efficient.
- Load type. Heavy, mixed or containerised loads → forklift. Uniform palletised stock → reach truck.

Built for UAE conditions
Both machines are CE-certified, ARAS-brand equipment, supplied and supported by ARAS Developments FZE from our base in Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), Dubai, with service and parts across all seven emirates. CE certification means they’re built and tested to recognised European safety and build standards — reassurance for procurement and safety teams. Electric drivetrains keep emissions out of your warehouse air, run quietly, and — especially with lithium — cut running costs versus diesel over the life of the truck.
Available now from ARAS in JAFZA
We currently have both machines in stock at our JAFZA base in Dubai: the ARAS lithium electric forklift (1.5–3.0 t, 4.5–4.8 m lift) and the ARAS electric reach truck (1.5–2.0 t, up to 10 m lift), both CE certified. Equipment demonstrations can be arranged inside Jebel Ali Free Zone. Whether you need one, the other, or a pair working together across your dock and your racking, our team will help you size them correctly for your operation.

Frequently asked questions
Is a lithium forklift better than a lead-acid reach truck?
Neither is “better” outright — they’re built for different jobs. A lithium electric forklift suits multi-shift dock and yard work where opportunity charging avoids downtime, while a lead-acid electric reach truck is a cost-effective choice for steady indoor put-away in tall, narrow-aisle racking. Match the machine to the task and both are the right answer.
How high can the ARAS electric reach truck lift?
The ARAS electric reach truck is available with maximum lift heights of 7.5 m and 10 m, in 1.5 and 2.0 tonne capacities — suitable for high-bay racking that a standard counterbalance forklift can’t reach.
Are ARAS forklifts and reach trucks certified?
Yes. Both the ARAS lithium electric forklift and the ARAS electric reach truck are CE certified, built and tested to recognised European safety and build standards, and supported with service and spare parts across all seven emirates from JAFZA, Dubai.
Are the ARAS electric forklift and reach truck available in Dubai now?
Yes — both are currently in stock at our Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) base in Dubai, with delivery and service across the UAE. Equipment demonstrations can be arranged inside Jebel Ali Free Zone. Contact us for current availability and pricing.
